Scripture is filled with God’s commands for His people to care for orphans. Today there are an estimated 143 million orphans worldwide, with 5,000 more children being orphaned every day. Only 1% of these children will ever be adopted. Many of the rest of them are left abandoned, helpless, without hope. Who can best give these children hope but believers who are able to share not only material goods, but also the good news of the gospel?
“For the Least of These” is a new ministry at Forcey created with the purpose of providing practical opportunities for the Forcey Family, individually and as a congregation, to carry out God’s mandate to care for the orphan with the vision to have every orphan experience God’s love and know Jesus as Savior. As God enables and directs us, those opportunities will include: (1) ministering to local foster care children, as well as to the teens who are aging out of the foster care system; (2) partnering with our Forcey missionaries to care for children in orphanages overseas; and (3) partnering with other churches and ministries in service projects to aid orphans and families both here and abroad.
Everyone can play a part in this ministry! It is not just for those who feel called to provide foster care or adopt, and He promises to guide and provide for all those who act on behalf of the needy and oppressed (see Isaiah 58:10-11). There are so many ways to help, both big and small. Watch for announcements in the services or keep an eye on our bulletin board for opportunities.
